INVESTIGATING LOCAL RECURRENCE IN SECONDARY BRAIN TUMOURS

Abstract AIMS Brain metastases result in considerable morbidity and mortality. Modern treatment strategies are increasingly omitting radiation therapy after surgical resection of these tumours. We investigated the rate local recurrence patients who had undergone surgery for brain metastasis a single-institution study compared it to literature through comprehensive meta-analysis. METHOD Patients undergoing were identified their records reviewed. Data on outcome was extracted analysed. A systematic-review meta-analysis, registered PROSPERO (CRD42023391637), conducted following PRISMA statement. RESULTS The comprised 358 cases, 40% (n=142) male 60% (n=216) being female with median age at 60 years (range 23-85 years). most frequent primary cancer lung affecting 35% (n=126), followed by breast (24%, n=87) malignant melanoma (13%, n=47). Among cases 142 underwent without any adjuvant radiation. freedom from 12-months this population 38.3% (95% CI 13.4, 44.6). meta-analysis encompassed three studies, total 170 cases.
